Making the Move Feel Like Home
Friends Homes is dedicated to making the move-in process for new residents as seamless and stress free as possible. Moving is a major life transition, and Friends Homes understands it often comes with questions, emotions and uncertainty. That’s why the community offers thoughtful resources and personalized support designed to help residents feel informed, prepared and genuinely welcomed from the very beginning.
From one-on-one guidance and trusted transition resources to hands-on assistance and ongoing check-ins, Friends Homes is deeply committed to serving each resident as an individual. The team takes time to understand personal needs, preferences and concerns, offering reassurance and individualized attention throughout the process as residents begin this next chapter of life.
One of the first friendly faces new residents meet is Teresa Mackey, Move-in Coordinator, who helps guide new residents step-by-step through the move-in experience. She assists with home selections such as paint colors and flooring and works closely with residents to ensure every detail feels manageable and personal. By taking the time to get to know each new resident and understand their individual needs, Teresa can connect them with the right resources and provide support throughout the transition.
“We have a great process because we’ve really thought through how to make this a smooth transition,” Teresa says. “Our goal is to deliver on hospitality and be there for residents in whatever way they need. Taking the time to listen and support them makes all the difference.”
Friends Homes offers guidance and referrals to a variety of trusted move-in and transition resources to help ease the process. The team can connect residents with reputable specialists who assist with downsizing, donating belongings and selecting reliable moving companies. Having access to these trusted recommendations helps residents feel supported and better equipped during a time when packing and decision-making can feel overwhelming.
To further reduce stress, Friends Homes provides a complimentary hour of maintenance support to help hang pictures, assemble furniture and take care of final details, allowing residents to settle in comfortably on move-in day. Each resident’s first meal is also complimentary, and new residents are welcomed with custom gifts from the community to help them feel at home. Once settled, residents enjoy maintenance-free living, monthly housekeeping services, transportation to grocery stores and local outings, access to a variety of dining options, and a full calendar of activities.
Support comes not only from the team but from fellow residents as well. Volunteer residents serve as Friends Homes ambassadors, spending time with new neighbors, sharing meals, enjoying activities
together and helping them learn the community from a resident’s point of view. This peer support helps new residents make connections and feel at home more quickly.
At every stage of the move-in experience, Friends Homes is guided by care, communication and connection. For future residents, the message is reassuring. From the first conversation to feeling fully at home, there is a dedicated team ready to support them every step of the way.
